Thesis Topic:               The Indian power sector is one of the largest contributors of carbon dioxide                                               emissions among all sectors. Therefore, through our work we want to analyze                                           the trade-offs in cost and emissions from our existing power plants. This                                                     involves creating an optimization model with detailed representation of all                                                 power plants of India and analyzing implications of different operating                                                       strategies in power generation. We found that Indian power sector can mitigate                                         significant amount of emission through changes in supply strategy and further                                         by addressing gas supply bottlenecks. The study aims to provide                                                                 methodological as well as policy contribution for power sector transitions.
