I work on the microphysics of clouds and their implications on lightning. This involves studying the dynamics of lightning at both the small (O(1 cm – 1 m)) scales and the larger scales (O(10 km – 1000 km)). I approach the problems from the perspective of fluid dynamics and look at the interaction between multiple phases (vapor, liquid/solid) in turbulent flows in the atmosphere, and their implications in lightning via atmospheric convection around the world. I want to further explore problems which study the interaction between the smaller and the larger scales, especially to improve the understand the processes occurring at the subgrid scales and the associated implications for the larger scales.
