MTech in Climate and Sustainability

Programme overview

The Centre for Climate Studies (CCS) at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay offers a prestigious MTech programme in Climate and Sustainability, launched to address the pressing challenges of climate change through advanced technical education and innovation. The curriculum is designed to establish a focus on climate science and climate impacts, adaptation and mitigation science and solutions, sustainability and risk computations, policy responses to the severe local and remote climate impacts faced by the subcontinent as well as projects oriented towards climate services, climate solutions, and climate policies.

CCS has 7 core faculty and over 30 faculty participants drawn from 12 departments, across IIT Bombay, with expertise in Climate Processes, Climate Impacts and Adaptation, Climate Mitigation, Climate Solutions and Policy. The MTech. curriculum in the CCS includes four core courses and several advanced courses in the tracks of climate science, climate change impacts and adaptation, and climate policy, on a broad range of theoretical and practical topics.

Application process for admission in M.Tech. programme for the Autumn 2025-2026 session has commenced.

Announcement of shortlisted candidates for Entrance Test/Interview: April 21, 2025

Degree/Qualifying Discipline

B.E./ B.Tech./ Bachelor of Architecture /Bachelor of Planning/M.Sc. / M.C.A. / AMIE in in any engineering/ science discipline.

  • For GN/EWS/OBC (NC): Minimum 60% marks OR First Class (as per university) OR CGPA/CPI of 6.0 (on a 10-point scale) or equivalent.
  • For SC/ST/PwD: Minimum 55% marks OR CGPA/CPI of 5.5 (on a 10-point scale) or equivalent.

GATE Requirement

A valid GATE score in Any Discipline irrespective of background.

*Candidates having two years of relevant work experience are exempted from requirement of GATE score, provided their candidature is sponsored by the employer. They are not eligible for award of Teaching/Research Assistantship.
