Seminar
Hardik Shah is a final-year PhD candidate in the Department of Earth and Climate Science at IISER Pune. His research focuses on understanding how large-scale atmospheric dynamics shape near-surface thermodynamic variability and extremes. Using interpretable machine-learning methods, he develops physically interpretable and transferable diagnostic frameworks to identify dynamical mechanisms underlying statistical relationships.
His published work extends the quasi-linear approximation framework, widely used in statistical approaches to atmospheric turbulence, to quantify the quasi-linear and nonlinear contributions to dry static energy transport and relate their combinations to distinct synoptic flow configurations. His current research uses this framework to investigate the contrasting dynamical pathways governing the evolution of warm and cold temperature anomalies, with the broader goal of extending these ideas to moist heat extremes and other climatic regions.
