Centre for Climate Studies
The Centre for Climate Studies (CCS) was initiated at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, in January, 2012, at the doctoral level as an interdisciplinary program. The mandate of the Centre for Climate Studies is to undertake interdisciplinary research and education to develop a scientific understanding of regional climate change and connect it to its impacts (environment, resources, socio-economic) and effective responses (technology and adaptation).

Education
Evolve an interdisciplinary doctoral curriculum, special courses for postgraduate students and to serve continuing education needs of professionals.
Research
Undertake high-impact, multi-disciplinary, problem-driven research for end-to-end solutions to climate change. To build long-term scientific capacity and systems for study of regional climate change and climate futures.
Human Resource Development
Enable the creation of a pool of multi-disciplinary researchers to serve the growing need for climate change professionals.
Government
Inform policy and govt. and decision-making and provide strategic knowledge support to DST, GoI.
Our Vision, Objectives, and Goals
Our vision is to be the world leader in research, education, innovation and capacity building in Climate Science and Climate Solutions, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to serve society and protect it from adverse climate impacts.
The goals of the centre are:
- Undertake scientific capacity building in climate change, through teaching and research initially at the PhD level.
- Undertake inter-disciplinary, problem-driven research for end-to-end analysis / solutions.
- Build systems and tools (integrated measurement systems, modelling platforms, assessment tools) for the study of climate change.
- Undertake R&D and technology development to provide climate change mitigation solutions.
The centre’s objectives are:
- To build long-term scientific capacity and systems (measurement systems, modelling platforms, assessment tools) for study of regional climate change and climate futures.
- To provide critical assessments to support governmental policy and decision response to climate change mitigation.
- To serve public and private sector entities catering to clean energy and climate advisories and services.
